Steps for the Activity

  1. Break into groups: Have groups study the Connected Learning infographic and then make a list or a drawing of what they understand about Making as Learning, Connected Learning and the Open Web. Have them think about these questions and make a plan:

    • What do you know about making in relation to learning?
    • What are the principles behind Connected Learning?
    • How does openness support learning?

Have participants brainstorm what their projects will be. You may want to place some creative constraints to help people get making faster. Provide your learners with the Designing for the Web: Planning resource, which will help them place their own contraints.

  2. Start building! Have learners find media that can serve as the visuals for their new stories (try the Connected Learning and NWP's DigitalIs sites).

  3. Have learners use Webmaker tools to create their reflections and stories. Allow them to collaborate and tinker around with their own ideas to figure out what they want to make.

Discussion

Have participants talk about their projects and display the work they have done. Following the presentations, facilitators should direct participants to other resources in their community or online to learn more about making and remixing. Provide individual constructive feedback during presentations.
