Steps for the Activity

  1. One person is chosen to play Tim Berners Lee.

  2. On a large flipchart draw an envelope (mail), an envelop with an @ symbol (email), something to represent a Web Forum, and microblogs. Draw arrows from the first symbol to the second; the second to the third and so on.

  3. Everybody (except Tim) walks around moving and saying something about snail mail. When you meet another person who is "mail", you play "Rock, Paper, Scissors". The winner becomes an email and must move around and say "You've got mail!". The loser remains snail mail and looks for another letter to play 'Rock, Paper, Scissors' with. The email looks for another email and plays 'Rock, Paper, Scissors' with them so one becomes a web forum and the other remains an email....and so on

  4. You can only play "Rock, Paper, Scissors" with somebody at the same evolutionary stage as yourself.

  5. When you finally become a microblog, you then play "Rock, Paper, Scissors" with Tim. If Tim wins then you become snail mail again. If you win, then you're out of the game.
